OKFnBD Celebrate Education Freedom Day 2014

Education Freedom Day Program (1) copyOn the third Saturday of January, Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) and the Open Knowledge Foundation Network (OKFN) jointly organized program. Education Freedom Day 2014 celebrated in Bangladesh as well as in different countries of the world. Digital Freedom Foundation declares the third Saturday of the January as EFD. On the third Saturday of January, Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) and the Open Knowledge Foundation Network (OKFN) Bangladesh jointly organized program. At the event, the guests are discussing on free educational software and materials, which can easily reach to all.
This year’s main aim of the day was “Availability of education related software and open education components”. The goal of the day is the use of technology in education is a fundamental right for everyone. For the achievement of the goal, the consortium encourages distribution and creation of free software, free textbooks, and free educational materials. This program held at the head office of Bangladesh Open source Network. General Secretary of BdOSN Mr. Munir Hasan announce that, for encourage of the open education BDOSN and Shikkhok.com jointly started new course.
OKFN Bangladesh Ambassador and Bengali Wikipedia administrator Nurunnaby Chowdhury Hasive articulate that, If education related websites and software are available for all, the overall quality of the education will be raised. Mukto Asar’s president Abu Sayed, Assistant coordinator of Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee Ayubur Rahman, Higher Education Department official Ariful Islam, Engineer Abu Taher , a central member of OKFN Bangladesh Rahitul Islam Ruwel, Rafat Jamil, Palash Nandy, Musa Kajim Naim and volunteers of BdOSN and OKFN attended the program. After the program, at the open discussion session the participants are talked about the importance of education related software distribution and creation. A documentary also aired at the event.
